Abby Dahlkemper and Sam Mewis on USA quarterfinal win

Following the USA’s win over France in the World Cup quarterfinal, WomensFootball.co.uk spoke to US national team players, Abby Dahlkemper and Sam Mewis about the match.

WF: “It’s a bit of a silly question, but how does it feel to be in the World Cup semi-finals?”
AD: “It feels amazing, surreal but obviously so happy and we’ve worked so hard for this and we got the job done. It might not be the prettiest fashion but we got the job done.”

WF: “Is there any frustration over conceding?”
AD: “Nah [laughs] we won!

WF: “You’ve been a key part of North Carolina’s defence for some time now but there have previously been questions raised about you in a USA shirt, however you’ve been proving your doubters wrong this summer and have been one of the standout defenders of the tournament – have you been doing anything different or are you just fully in the zone?”
AD: “I think just being calm and confidence and I’ve been fortunate enough to play with this team for a couple of years now and it’s hard to play defence and you’re going to get criticised all the time but I just focus on working hard and being the best player I can be for this team and I’ve been doing that this tournament.

WF: “What’s your assessment of the match?”
SM: “I think we can do better, I think France was really great team and they presented us with a lot of challenges, they had a lot of the ball and I give up credit for grinding it out and getting the win.
