Alex Morgan insists USA must be in Women’s World Cup final at minimum

United States of America (USA) forward Alex Morgan spoke on Thursday ahead of her side’s Women’s World Cup campaign opener against Thailand on June 11th in France.

The USA have been at a pre-World Cup training camp at Tottenham Hotspur’s Training Centre in North London, and will soon leave to France for their opening match.

“We’re always looking at making it to the final and I think that’s part of our mentality. Regardless of the time in the game,” said Morgan, about the USA’s approach to the World Cup in France.

“Given the history we have always had great success in tournaments. So of course you know if you’re holding that number one ranking and you come in eighth in a tournament you know that’s not so great. So, for us we’re always looking at making it to the final and I think that’s part of our mentality.”

“Regardless of the time in the game we’re going to continue to believe that we’re going to come up on top. I think that’s like instilled in us from you know from the ’99rs’ (team of 1999) and from the past players.”
